If you haven’t dived in a while, it’s good practice to refresh your skills in a safe environment before you get back in the water — especially if you’re heading abroad. Some agencies, including PADI, ask qualified divers to refresh every 12 months.
Refresher training typically costs around £140 at commercial centres such as the National Diving Centre at Stoney Cove. With us it costs £42.50 — with nationally qualified BSAC instructors, at your local club, without booking months ahead or travelling a long way.
We run refresher dives every Wednesday of the year. Your evening starts at our clubhouse at the edge of Victoria Park in Leamington Spa, where you collect and assemble your scuba equipment — all included in the price. It’s a good chance to refresh how it fits together and ask about anything you’re unsure of. There’s no such thing as a silly question, and we can bring you up to date on any changes to technology and safety standards.
From the clubhouse we travel three minutes by car to Newbold Comyn Leisure Centre, where we have exclusive access to the pool.
You start in the shallow end in waist-high water, getting comfortable with your equipment again. You move through progressively deeper water at a pace that suits you, covering the skills and drills relevant to your qualification, plus anything you particularly want to work on. The maximum depth is 2.4 metres, and your instructor stays with you throughout.
The whole experience takes two to three hours, including an hour in the water. By the end you’ll feel confident about getting back in, and up to date with best practice.
